Staging is not a new thing. It's an old idea with a new name.
When you get ready to sell your home, you have a Realtor come in and generally they will tell you several things that need to be done to your home and I can just about guarantee you one of those will be to "de-clutter". Everything from the closets to the walls. Walls, you say, yes walls.
Here is a general rule of thumb, if it's been on the walls for more than 8 years... it's out of style!
Mauve and blue are out. So is apricot and seafoam green. I know, it's hard to believe that everyone doesn't love your mauve wall paper. It looked good when you put it up in 1984. What's wrong with it now?
All kidding aside, we are looking at a world of taupes and soft beiges.
So, to make your life less stressed before you call that Realtor, clean out your closets. Organize your shelves and put away those family photos of the kids from age 1 to 21.
You want a potential buyer to know someone lives there, they just won't know who. It is hard for a buyer to focus on your home when they are busy looking at cute baby pictures.
Trust me! As a former realtor myself, I know what people do. They stop and look and read anything hanging. That doesn't sell your house! Remember that "LESS IS MORE". Whether it's on the walls, in the closet or on the floor!
Floor space is key! Give people a way in and out of a room. You can make a home feel bigger just by de-cluttering.
